Open Question: How do television stations decide what teams to televise?

I asked this question yesterday, but only got one response...anyone know? How does a TV station decide which team to broadcast? I understand if you live in close proximity to a team why they broadcast that team. I grew up in a west Texas town roughly 500 miles from Houston and 400 miles from Dallas. All I ever saw as a kid was the Rangers. (I have been a Rangers fan since I was a kid). The only time I saw the Astros was if they were playing the Braves or the Cubs...ahh the good old days of WGN Cubs and TBS Braves. Now I live in a town about 100 miles from Houston and 350 miles from Dallas and it is just the opposite (Which really sucks being a Rangers fan), but every Cowboys game is on and only some of the Houston Texans...so how do they decide who to televise?
